Who Wouldn't Want to Live on the Golden Mile?~ Life in Myrtle Beach, SC

The "Golden Mile" one of the finest sections of real estate in Myrtle Beach, SC.  When I say Golden Mile, I am not referring to a Tom Hanks movie from a few years back.  That my friends was The Green Mile which while it was an awesome movie, it has nothing to do with Myrtle Beach Real Estate.

So what is The Golden Mile you may ask?  Well, it is a section of Single Family Oceanfront Homes in located in the heart of Myrtle Beach, SC.  It stretches about a mile long and hence how it got it's Golden Mile nickname.  There are no hotels, just beautiful homes and scenic views of the beach.

Besides the awesome views, you can also find some great non-crowded areas of the beach.  Even during the busiest times of the year the beach seems to always be less crowded than if you were visiting the beach near one of the large hotels.  This also means you can normally find some really great shells along the Golden Mile.

I went down to the Golden Mile last week and since it was so vacant I saw it was a perfect time to snap a few beach photos.  Don't take my word though about the great views, see for yourself from my trip.

As Temperatures Continue to Drop, a Simple Tip to Save Money from Your Myrtle Beach Real Estate Expert

My Office Window

Living in Myrtle Beach, SC we are lucky not to have to deal with a lot of the cold wintry weather that other parts of the country experience for many months each winter.  For example, on Friday, I posted an update on twitter saying, "Its 5pm in the Middle of November & the temperatures is 70 outside!" At the same time, parts of the northeast were preparing for snow!

While living in Myrtle Beach we normally enjoy nice warm temperatures, there are times where we get sudden drops in the temperature, like this morning.

I just checked the temperature and it is saying 42 degrees on weather.com.  This is very chilly for here!  Anyways, on to the point of this post.

I was working from my home office this morning and no matter what I tried I could not warm up.  I looked at the windows and they appeared to be closed properly, but there just seemed to be this continual cold draft on my feet.  Then a large truck drove by the front of the house and it seemed to be rather loud.  So, I jumped up to inspect my windows a little closer.

Upon a more thorough inpection, I realized that one of my windows that looked to be closed properly was not locked tight, and therefore was not sealing the way it was intended to.  This allowed for a continual draft to come in.  A simple fix of turning the lock and draft is now gone!

So, as the temperatures continue to drop and we head into winter, now is the perfect time to check your windows to make sure they are closed properly and locked to help keep the cold air out of your home.  This simple step can save you major money on energy bills!

A night at BB&T Coastal Field- Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

BBT Coastal FieldLast night, my family & I had some tickets to go see the Myrtle Beach Pelicans play the Wilmington Blue Rocks at BB&T Coastal Field in Myrtle Beach, SC.  The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, are an Atlanta Braves Class-A Minor League team. They have been in Myrtle Beach since 1999.

My wife & I enjoy going to see the games because the prices are very reasonable at only $7.00-$9.00 per ticket.  However, I can attest, no matter which section your tickets are in, you are going to have great views and a great time.  You can see what the views are like by viewing their virtual seating map here.  Also, there is all sorts of wonderful stadium food to eat.  We shared a delicious order of Boneless Buffalo Tenders with fries.

Since my wife works at BB&T, from time to time they have some of their season tickets available for employees to go to the game.  The season tickets are absolutely wonderful.  We sat about 6 rows behind home plate to watch both games of the double-header that was caused by a rainout the night before.  In the Carolina League if there is a rainout, when the double header is played, you only play 7 innings per game.

What I love about where we were sitting, is that all of the scouts for both teams sit all around you during the game with their radar guns.  So, you get to see what speed was on every pitch thrown.  Also, you get to hear some of the news about players that might be moved up to the big leagues soon.  I actually got into a rather deep conversation with one of the scouts last night about some of the Pelicans players that might soon be moved up. What most people don't realize is that a lot of players that are currently playing in the Major League played here in Myrtle Beach.  Some of those players include, Marcus Giles, Adam Laroche, Rafael Furcal, Jason Marquis, and the player with the longest name in Baseball history, Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

In between games, there was a pep rally put on by Coastal Carolina University to cheer on the football team as they prepare to begin their season this Saturday against Penn State University.  The cheerleaders did routines, the football team was on hand for some eat & greet, and the pep band even played the national anthem for the second game.  It actually worked out nicely to have this scheduled because there was then constant entertainment for the fans as the grounds crew prepared the field for the second game.

The whole night wasn't spent just talking baseball, I ran into a few other local real estate agents in the area, and did talk a little real estate as well.

Overall, we had a great time at the game and enjoyed watching the First Place Pelicans win both games of the double header in two shut-out games.  They are headed to the playoffs again this year and hopefully will be able to win the Carolina League Championship again.

I love a rainy day at the Beach!

beachToday, as the rain begins to fall, we have to sit inside instead of enjoying the wonderful beaches of South Carolina.  It is a major bummer to us all.

Peronally, I enjoy a little rain.  It helps to cool things down, wash off the dustiness on everything and is always followed up by beautiful sunshine liike in the picture to the right.  This was taken on the day I was married on October 28th, 2006.  The day before, we had similar weather to todays.  Rain all day long with heavy showers for most of the time.

When I woke the next morning and looked outside, all I could see was beautiful blue skies.  Made for an extra memorable day!
