Today was a rather exciting day as I heard about Ustream releasing a new Mobile iPhone App for the iPhone & the Droid. So what is this new Ustream Mobile app, & what is mobile streaming? Well, Mobile streaming is the ability to do a live video feed straight from your mobile phone. This is huge & exciting new technology for us in the real estate industry. What this new Ustream Mobile App does, is allows you to transform your basic iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, or Droid smart phone into a live video streaming machine.
The app works really easy & with just a few simple clicks of a button, you are now able to share live video feeds with the world. Since the Ustream Mobile App is created by the makers of Ustream.tv, it also allows you to use their other great features. Which means you can create video & instantly feed it to your Facebook Page, Twitter Account & also to YouTube. The best part of all, is that the Ustream Mobile App, is totally free!
Here are my top features of the Ustream Mobile app:
- Uploads straight from phone to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, & Ustream
- Integrates the Ustream chat right onto phone while doing live streams.
- Allows video to now be recorded on iPhone 3G without needing to "jailbreak" phone.
- Save videos to be uploaded later when you are not in a 3G or wifi area.
- Ustream Mobile app is free!
So how could the Ustream Mobile App be used to enhance your Real Estate Business? Here are a few ways you might find this type of program useful:
- Showing property to buyers who are not in town. You can use your phone to show the property, answer their questions & also show them first hand what the property looks like. So, if the buyer wants to know what color the cabinets are, you can walk into the kitchen & show them the cabinets in a live stream.
- Updating a Seller on the Condition of their Property. Especially as we go into the winter season, there are times where you have an emergency with a home that you need to share with the seller immediately to make a decision. I remember one time we had a home where we had a very cold day & a pipe inside the wall had broken. I wish I had something like this to show the seller quickly so we could make a quick decision & save their first floor. Unfortunately, this type of software was not available then, and the first floor ended up needing to be completely redone.
- Share Special events with Friends & Family. How many times do you wish you had the ability to share a special moment in video format with friends & family on your Facebook Page? The Ustream Mobile App allows you to do such a thing really easily.
There are tons of other great ways that you could use the Ustream Mobile App. So what do the videos look like from the Ustream Mobile App on an iPhone 3G? Here is a short video I did as a test to see how it worked. While the video quality isn't the highest possible, it is fairly decent & the audio is very good. Take a moment & watch:

Twitter Applications- 125 Twitter Tools To Make Twitter Easier To Use

I wish, wish, wish Verizon would get the ipone in the Southern Maryland vicinity.
Jeremy - This seems like a neat app with many applications. Similar to Frank, it would be nice if the app was also available on the Blackberry. Are we supposed to use both Blackberries and Iphones?
I am kinda surprised that they have not yet released the BB version of this app. I am guessing they are waiting till after the new year when there are supposed to be some major changes to Blackberry OS. Once that takes place I am sure they will have one. In the meantime, I would try out Qik. It is a good one for Blackberry.
I refuse to buy an iPhone O.o Yes. I'm an iPhone hater. LOL. And I'm worried about what I'll have to buy when the time comes to buy my next phone. So far, I've always insisted on having Windows Mobile... previously known as Pocket PC. I actually have a Palm Pilot that runs Windows Mobile. Grrrr.
Jeremy - This is very cool news! I was just considering jailbreaking my iPhone. Thanks for the info!
this sounds pretty cool Jeremy. Just another reason to scrap the BB for the Droid :)
I wish there was a similar app for my Blackberry.
I am downloading this one tonight. I have a deal closing this month thanks to my newest Iphone.
Still miss my blackberry though.. I think the best solution is one of each as I still long for that almost real time email feature.
But, I had to switch to the Iphone and do love it, just email sucks, and no IR for supra access.
Thanks for the info,
Hasn't this been a typical cell phone feature in Japan for years?
Thanks for sharing this, Jeremy! I'm waiting til March to switch to the Droid. Of course, unless Verizon is able to market the iPhone!...
wow! This is awesome! I love my iPhone! Thank you, Jeremy! I'm going to download it right now. You bet I will use it!
Thanks!
-Nelson
Yep. Great app. I downloaded it yesterday and just started to play. Also check out the new Dragon app. Very good voice recognition.
love the iPhone
Tony
Jeremy, More proof of why you get the big bucks! I downloaded and hope to try it today.
Jeremy,
It does sound good, but I need a blackberry application first, before I can really see what it's like.
Brian
Love it. Reminds of the day of live TV back in the 50's. The ability to autofeed to other networks is a plus. I love the ability of real time. I think some of the agents worries about being live is not to be worried about. Clients won't use us just becasue we sound like a K-Tel commerical, Slices! Dices! Even makes french fries! They use us because we are on it, have the expertise, and this just proves we know a good deal when we see one, and we want people to know immediately. On to the iPhone download section.
For those that are afraid of not being able to edit the video.... The big features of this program is not the ability to record video, but more the fact that you can stream live the video straight to your consumers. So they can be sitting in front of their computer as you walk through the house and show them things. If editing & shooting high quality videos is what you are looking for, I would suggest investing in a flip camera that you can take home, connect to computer & edit. Works really well!
John Novak- Yes, Qik has been available for the iPhone, but in order to use it, you had to jailbreak your phone to have the program work. The Ustream Mobile App allows you to do so without needing to jailbreak. Plus it allows you to send from phone to FB & Youtube. I don't remember Qik allowing that to be done.
Joe Murphy- Check your settings on your iPhone. You can push the email & have it check for email like as quick as every 10-15 min. Mine is very similar in the amount of time for email to come as my old Blackberry. Trust me when I say, you don't want to be carrying one of each. I did that for about 6 months & it was a headache.
BlackBerry Fans- My best guess is that when they release the newest software updates which I heard are supposed to come around the beginning of new yr, there will then possibly come the ability for ustream broadcasting on the blackberry. Right now, though, try using QIK. It is a good alternative.
This sounds like fun! I don't think my iPhone does video though, I probably need a new one. I'll bookmark your post for whenever I get it!
Great Post! Please follow me on twitter @davidperry and @daveperryrealty and in turn I will follow you. Together we can do great things if we all work together.

I just downloaded this app yesterday, and you've reviewed it already! I'm looking forward to trying it out and seeing how I like it.
Joetta- That is the great part of it! It works on not only the 3GS, but also on the older 3G that never had video! It will still stream live & allow to be uploaded to youtube!
Hey Jer - I noticed that the quality of stream is a little slow. It also skips and pauses even when moving the camera angle slowly. Is there a setting on the iPhone or in the app that allows or helps to remove the "jumpiness" and poor streaming? The audio seems to be fine.
Jeremy, there are 3 different apps shown on Itunes, Ustream Live Broadcaster, View application, and Recorder. Does it matter which one we use?
Cool Tool! any applications from these folks for the Blackberry?
Sounds like a good phone. I have to wait til March to upgrade...maybe then

Great Post Jeremy, I can def see the uses for this app in our business. I'm a BB user and not happy with ANY of the web applications I use on it because it is SOOOOOO SLOOOOOOOWWWWW. My two college kids have Macs and I am becoming a believer. My next lap top will be Mac and my next phone will be iPhone!!! Thanks again for the great post.
Joe- You want the broadcaster.
Brad- I noticed it jumps around pretty bad too. The audio stays well, but the video isn't the best. I noticed when I was on WI-Fi it seems better, but still not great. But, for streaming it is pretty good. If I was going to be using it to shoot video, I would probably either go into 3GS video camera, or pull out the flip cam. I haven't found any settings yet to change the camera settings. Of course, I am also only on a 3G. But, I can now at least somewhat catch video on my phone!
Jeremy,
Thanks for letting me know....As you said...it could really come in handy! Thanks so much....as always...all the new stuff is learned about at AR...my FAVORITE place to be!
Hey Jeremy, this is very cool and looks like something I would really enjoy! BTW I had lunch with Jason yeaterday and we visited about you, hope you are doing well! ;-)
Smart Phones are like the Bat Utility Belts for any business man, not just real estate agents. 10 years ago I carried a camera, tape recorded, sometimes a video camera, pager and a phone, and had a car full of maps and map books. Now they are all rolled into one little device.
Hi Jeremy, I just returned from shooting pics of a condo for my buyer. It sounds like your app would allow me to shoot and send live from onsite !
David Jeremy...
Well this is just great. I've recently updated to a Centro courtesy of my Son. They (my family) all upgraded to the IPhone. I decided I was okay with the Palm. Now after reading this I'm right back to wanting an IPhone. When I make that demand I'm going to tell BB it's all your fault and he needs to talk to you about my demands. See. It's very easy to move responsibility around. Kinda reminds you of the Adam and Eve does it not? :)
TLW...ROAR!
Thanks Jer, it seems like a great tool for quick live streaming but you're right, I prefer the flip or 3gs video over the live stream. If you do find a settings option, let me know. Here's one I did with ustream last night, you'll see what I mean about the choppy. http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/2800263
Yeah, I actually watched it last night Brad! I wanna know what I am getting for Christmas... If Dustin gets a car... what does that mean I get? :)
Ustream's new iPhone app is very easy to use. I used it yesterday to record a video of a house I was doing a real estate appraisal on. Here is the video: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/2757419
The quality is not as good as my flip camcorder but definitely easy to use.
Jeremy,
Thanks for this. I didn't know about it but will put it to use now! Thanks for sharing.
kp
thanks for the info. I am going to download it now
I want one so bad but I am waiting for the Itablet. So if the rumors about the tablet are correct. They will begin production in February for a March or April release.
I also am waiting for Apple to put a HD video camera in it. So I hope Apples habit of major overhauls is correct. 2010 is a major overhaul year.
Great idea, I just hope they do an app that works on a "dumbphone" not just a smartphone. Because I have a dumbphone.
I just downloaded Ustream, Jeremy...thanks for the heads up! I'll have to try it this week, but in the meantime, I'm re-blogging this! :)
Leilani
I tried it on my new Moto Droid phone with Verizon service, works great! An alternative for those trying to avoid the iPhone and AT&T.
Jeremy, I cant wait until this type of technology is "hopefully" moved out to all the other capable "broadband" phones. I wish these phone companies would understand the power of open source type solutions. Verizon really missed an opportunity because they wanted too much control over the I-Phone. The droid is nice but there are tons of other phones that could and should have the ability to take advantage of this type of technology.
I must say this was really cool watching Mike Mueller on it the other day. One day we'll look back and wonder how people survived without instant video phones! (Remember that AT&T attempt? lol)
The phone wars do continue and many areas can't get ATT and when they do service is spotty. We may see verizon carry the phone soon or maybe the hijack will become more and more accessible.
Jeremy,
I am torn between the ease and immediateness of the phone app on the one hand and the crappy uality and jumpiness on the other. I guess both have their benefits.
Jeremy, thanks for the great info. I just got the iphone for christmas and love using it. Been messing with a bunch of apps to see what works for my marketing plan. I will try this one out.
Jeremy- Thanks- This is the app we are looking for! Now I don't have to search for it, thanks for the direct link.
I have downloaded the app, made an account at Ustream and now i'm experimenting with it. It's a little confusing, but I think I can handle it.
is it better than apples imovie. i always like to review what the reviews say in the iphone.
