Here is an article that was posted in The Sun News today:
Tourism growth rate slows
By Lisa Fleisher - The Sun News
Tourists spent more on food and hotels, and less on transportation and entertainment, as spending on tourism in the United States rose 2.1 percent in 2007, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis announced today.
That's a slower rate of growth than last year, and the growth rate has been falling since 2004, according to the bureau.
The growth rate for food and beverage spending fell sharply to 1.6 percent, after four years of 4 percent growth or more.
The news contained in this article does not surprise me. With the lower value of the dollar, gas prices rising, and everything else costing more, people have less money available for spending on luxuries such as going on vacation. Hopefully over this next year things will turn around and Tourism will increase. Our market is and local economy is totally dependent upon tourism.

Jeremy,
I've read where 'foreign' tourism should be increasing because of the decreasing value of the dollar and rising Euros and other currencies!!! Thanks, Fran
Fran- We have noticed that here as well. In fact, they have been holding special seminars on how to work with Canadians, and all the rules & regs if they want to purchase here.
Gayle- That also has started picking up here in Myrtle Beach
