What is something you are passionate about? The first thing that came to mind for me was music! Not only do I love to play music, but I normally have it constantly playing. I am a huge fan of Christian Music and Worship Music to be even more exact. One of my favorite songwriters/musicians is Chris Tomlin.
Just like many of the many successful bloggers here on Activerain, he writes songs that are simple and to the point. He uses words and music that many can relate to. Also, he is not afraid to share with others how to play his music. The video below he shares one of his most popular songs How Great is Our God as well as the chords and how to play them. I chose this song because it is easy to remember and is so powerful. It is probably one of my favorite worship songs to play for a congregation.
This song as simple as it sounds is played weekly in thousands of churches around the world. The one thing that many do not realize about Chris Tomlin is that he wasn't always a musician and worship leader. He actually was in college studying psychology when he realized there was much more for him and that he had a talent. Something that came natural & easy to him.
Even though he had a degree, and parents who might become dissapointed in his decision, Chris began to persue a career in music. That decision was definitely worth the risk involved. Since making his decision to follow his passion in music, he has received plenty of recognition. Here are the current stats via About.com

What makes him a hero to me is a few things. First, he is an excellent musician. Be sure to check out some of his other music at the bottom of this post. Second, he realized what his passion was and followed after it. It would have been much easier to simply start a career working with his degree in psychology, but he would never been satisfied because his passion would have had a major void. He went against all odds to follow and by doing so has touched the lives of millions through his wonderful music!
This is why Chris Tomlin is a hero who inspires me through his music.

Jer - I think I may have already told you this, but I am good friends with Jesse Reeves, who co-wrote "How Great is Our God", "Forever", and many of Chris' other songs. He also plays bass in the band. I worked with Jesse on his home purchase (and later, his sale). He referred a bunch of business to me, including Daniel Carson (guitarist). Great choice!
It's good to have hero's. My father and my oldest son are my heros. Both hold fast to their convictions and provide inspiration to me every day.
