Yesterday as I was checking through my regular email, I noticed a google alert for my name. At first when I started reading it, I was trying to figure out what it was. A blog posted by a company called Viscape which is vacation property site posted a list called Top Vacation Real Estate Twitterers that you should follow. The list included several other very well
know bloggers. In order to make the list you had to be nominated by someone. I am not sure how I got nominated, but my name and twitter id was published in their post.
While being nominated for this list was an honor to me, there are a few things I realized from being on the list:
- The Power of Twitter is greater than any of us realize. Many don't really understand the concept of twitter. They do not think others will care about if they go do dinner at a chinese restaurant or if it is cold in Myrtle Beach, SC. But, with the ability to also incorporate your Activerain Real Estate Blog, to twitter which also sends the updates onto Facebook, Myspace, & other places make twitter an invaluable asset.
- Google alerts are vital to your business. Knowing when others are nominating you or giving you kudos is so very important to your business. This allows you to give thanks to those who are giving you props or thanks.
- Referrals are the name of the game. I can tell everyone how wonderful my blog is and how they should come read it, but someone else promoting your blog is 10 times more effective than me telling someone. A few weeks ago, Jason Crouch wrote a post and in it asked others to stop by my blog and how enjoyed reading my post. That simple thing he did brought over 14 subscribers to my blog alone.
So, in the spirit of referring, I would love everyone to stop by viscape and check them out.

On my way over...thanks!
I have not set up any google alerts yet. I have read a few blogs regarding them, but haven't bit the bullet and figured it out for myself. Well tonight is the night, I am going over to google right now and figuring this one out.
I need to get with the program because I am falling way behind. I don't have SEO, Twitter, etc. I am thinking about it but I have not jumped on it. Shame on me.
Hi Jeremy- Good call! I've been noticing some changes in my Google Alerts as well, and Twitters are coming up alot more. Congrats on the success..and a prosperous 2009!
After Active Rain there is nothing better than Twitter! I just got our first listing from Twitter but more than that the contacts, the save the days, the connections to 6 degrees of separation etc, it is so fast and furious, and for my coaching, I can not even begin to tell you the contacts and joint ventures that are beginning to form. It is also a huge support to me for homeschooling, there are tons of homeschoolers on twitter!
I set up some Google alerts several months ago. Very enlightening. Even comments to AR posts show up for my keywords.
I have been saying "NO" to twitter but I am going to try to pick it up and see what happens. How can you know if you don't try.
